In the coming years, new apartments, shops, a square and a public park with lush greenery will be built above the left bank of the Ohře River near the train station in Karlovy Vary. The modern development – called Nové Centrum Rybáře – will replace the dilapidated ruins of the former brewery complex.
Last year, the demolition began of the multi-storey building in Rybáře, which had served as a brewery since 1879. Brewery operations ceased at the turn of the millennium, and thereafter the complex fell into disrepair, becoming a refuge for the homeless. After the demolition work is completed and the area is cleared, construction of a unique project called Nové Centrum Rybáře will begin on this site, to include several multifunctional buildings.
The site will house 140 apartments, as well as shops and a café
Instead of the main brewery building, which was visible from various corners of Karlovy Vary, a large apartment building with underground garages and a green roof will become the new dominant. Next to it, a second 5- to 6-storey apartment building will also be built on the site. In the first stage, 140 apartments are planned, which will expand the possibilities of affordable, high-quality housing in Karlovy Vary. On the ground floor of the apartment buildings, there will be shops, a pharmacy, a café, a dry cleaner and other services to facilitate life and make it more pleasant for local residents.
The new park will enhance the neighbourhood
In addition to apartments and shops, Karlovy Vary residents can look forward to a new square, terraced family houses with small gardens and a public park that will be created between the new complex and the school. The area will be adorned with an oasis of greenery, as well as offering space for leisure activities to all generations, for pleasant walks, relaxation and get-togethers. Terraced houses will also be built as part of the second stage of the development project, which is planned near Kosmonautů Street.
