He is one of the most prominent figures in the European hotel and luxury hospitality industry. Ezio Indiani has been at the helm of Milan's Hotel Principe di Savoia for more than two decades and has won numerous prestigious international awards during his career, including the title of the Best Hotel Manager in the World. He considers his team to be a football team that can only win together. The "nuts and bolts" of his daily work is meeting people, on the one hand, his team and on the other, distinguished guests. According to him, the greatest success is the opportunity to do a job that one loves, and his most distant business trip to China and Japan gave him unforgettable moments. He enjoys simple pleasures the most – walks in Milan, good restaurants, tennis and time spent with close friends.
What is your most memorable travel experience?
A two-week vacation in July in my favourite Forte village in south Sardinia. The sea there is beautiful and refreshing, the atmosphere is relaxing. I enjoyed many fun times, an endless number of sports I could participate in and an incredible variety of restaurants.
What are your travel essentials – for both business and leisure travel?
I am interested in everything related to hospitality. I notice whether the bed is made properly, how kind the staff is. I check the freshness of the orange juice, the quality of the bread and the food in general. Food is my passion. I like to try out new restaurants and then share my findings with my team and the Chef.
What do you value the most in your company?
The attention our company pays to creating a positive environment with motivated employees. This allows them to provide impeccable service and turns guests into loyal customers.
Your company is successful because...
The Dorchester Collection brand, with which our hotel is affiliated, supports us in every way and that is why we are one of the most iconic hotels in Milan and Italy. Mutual recognition and respect are essential for a healthy and constructive coexistence in an international society.
How long have you been working in the company?
I have been the General Manager of the Hotel Principe di Savoia since 2005. Since 2009, I have been the National Delegate of the EHMA, and from 2019 to 2022 I was President of EHMA Europe.
What makes you happy at work?
It is the people. On the one hand, my team, which I like to imagine as a football team: we win together or lose together. Only a strong and united team can overcome various challenges. On the other hand, it is our extraordinary guests. Meeting heads of state, celebrities from the world of show business, industrial magnates, etc. are the nuts and bolts of my daily activities.
What makes you happy in your private life?
The health of the person I love, and of course, my own.
What does “success” mean to you?
Being able to do the job I love. It gives me energy and the desire to constantly seek new ways to do things differently and better. When we do our work well and with enthusiasm, it also helps us to lead a calmer and more fulfilling life.
Your most distant business trip?
Just before the pandemic, I set out to China and Japan. I visited Beijing, Shanghai and Shaanxi, the city of the Terracotta Army. One thing I will never forget was visiting the Great Wall of China. Japan was also special with a completely different culture than China. I was excited to try one of the best Japanese restaurants there. I also enjoyed the cherry blossoms in Osaka. It was a real-life experience that I will treasure.
What are your pleasures? What do you like/love?
I like simple things. I love walking through the hidden corners of Milan, discovering new vintage shops. I enjoy the mountains in winter and the sea in summer. I like reading, playing tennis, trying new restaurants and spending time with my close friends.
